Protesters block entrance to Citibank

Members of PAME, the trade union branch of the Communist Party of Greece, are seen during a protest outside Citibank in central Athens yesterday. More than 100 people blocked the bank’s entrance for more than two hours displaying banners that read: ‘Stop layoffs, stop exploitation.’ PAME organized similiar protests outside the Athens offices of British Airways and Alico insurance. Meanwhile private and public sector workers are expected to walk off the job today in a nationwide general strike that is expected to ground flights for several hours and also shut down banks, schools and transport services to protest job cuts and low salaries. Hospitals will operate with emergency staff and there will be a media blackout for a day.
