Immigrants against loan interest hikes

Hundreds of Greeks who were born in the former Soviet Union and have emigrated to this country staged a rally in Thessaloniki yesterday demanding lower interest rates for their mortgage loans. Protesters of all ages signed petitions (photo) asking the government not to permit a further rise in their loan interest rates. Also yesterday, PASOK’s deputy for Rodopi in Thrace, Giorgos Petalotis, submitted a question in Parliament about an issue that concerns tens of thousands of citizens in Greece. The question concerns the Economy Ministry’s decision two weeks ago to extend until December 31 the granting of rent subsidies to people who have emigrated to Greece from the former Soviet Union.
