Stocks back up after correction

Stocks on the Greek market recovered yesterday after the correction seen on Tuesday. Despite sharp fluctuations during the day, most stocks registered gains in the week’s second session. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index climbed to 1,894.56 points yesterday, gaining 0.74 percent on Tuesday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 0.79 percent to close at 959.29 points. Hellenic Petroleum continued its rise (up 5.69 percent), outperforming blue chips, followed by Marfin Investment Group (5.02 percent), Hellaktor (4.13 percent) and Viohalco (2.83 percent). Among stocks that lost ground were those of Motor Oil (down 6.74 percent), OPAP (2.33 percent) and EFG Eurobank (2.30 percent). Turnover reached 170.3 million euros, down from 242.3 million euros on Tuesday.
