Index climbs to near 2,300 pts
The Greek bourse enjoyed a heathy rise yesterday, thanks to a favorable climate on overseas markets and the better-than-expected corporate results announced by listed companies. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index rose to 2,294.82 points yesterday, gaining 2.69 percent on Tuesday’s closing. The blue-chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 2.63 percent to end up at 1,185.80 points. With the exception of OPAP, which declined by 2.65 percent, all other blue chips ended the day with gains. They were led by ATEbank (up 6.67 percent), Alpha Bank (6.17 percent), Titan cement (6 percent), Marfin Investment Group (4.83 percent), Public Power Corporation (4.61 percent), Viohalco (4.34 percent) and Eurobank EFG (4.14 percent). Turnover reached 207.2 million euros.
