Stock growth is set to continue
The Greek bourse enjoyed a week of significant gains along with a rise in turnover, in line with the growth seen on most foreign bourses as well. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed the week on Friday at 2,230.44 points, recording 5.9 percent growth from the previous week’s closing. Banks in particular rose by as much as 13.27 percent, outperforming all other sectoral indices. The influence from abroad and the absence of any long-term investment mentality make for fertile ground for traders, who speculate on banks and various other blue chips. The good signs from US banks and Chinese growth have bolstered the local market as well, with further increases expected in the coming days, as major US companies issue results. Investors will once again be focused on bank stocks, stockbrokers expect.
