Stocks rise but miss 2,900 pts

Greek stocks rose almost 1 percent yesterday on widespread gains but lacked the momentum to recapture the 2,900-point resistance level. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index rose 0.98 percent to 2,892.82 points after touching an intra-session high of 2,915.42 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index added 1.08 percent to 1,554.71 points. Banks firmed 1.40 percent. Alpha Bank jumped 2.99 percent to 14.12 euros, bringing gains in the last week to just over 5 percent. Piraeus Bank rose 2.47 percent to 13.30 euros while ATEbank headed 2.50 percent higher to 2.05 euros. Turnover reached 292.3 million euros versus 288.3 million in the previous session.
