Stocks rise, still short of 2,000 pts

Greek stocks seesawed between negative and positive territory yesterday to end 0.66 percent higher but failed to recapture the 2,000-point psychological cutoff mark. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index closed at 1,985.86 points after reaching an intrasession high of 2,009.26 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index advanced 0.71 percent to 998.67 points on selective buying. Marfin Investment Group jumped 3.83 percent to 1.90 euros and Bank of Cyprus rose 4.19 percent to 1.90 euros. Alpha Bank followed up Wednesday’s slide of 7.8 percent by rising 2.86 percent to 6.48 euros. Turnover reached 292.4 million euros versus 210 million in the previous session.
