Tax officers to take action against planned income cuts

Tax officers have announced four days of strike action over the next three weeks in protest at planned cuts to their incomes, according to the Panhellenic Federation of Tax Officers. The union’s president, Yiannis Grivas, said tax officers are willing to contribute to tackling the country’s problems by accepting a pay cut of 8 percent, but cannot accept a 25 percent reduction. Sectors such as parliamentary deputies, judges, doctors should contribute, «no one should stay unhurt,» he stated. Grivas suggested the tax officers would hold a 48-hour walkout starting February 4, participate in the civil servants’ general strike on February 10 and then take action again on February 17.
