Late buying flurry helps limit losses
Greek stocks yesterday came to the end of their previous ascent, but losses were marginal compared to the decline recorded at times during the session, thanks to a late buying flurry. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,085.16 points yesterday, shrinking by 0.11 percent from Monday’s close at 2,087.45 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 0.20 percent to end at 1,038.59 points. However, the mid-cap index posted growth of 0.85 percent. Among blue chips the biggest gains were for the stocks of Titan Cement (up 2.21 percent), Intralot (1.69 percent), OPAP (1.29 percent) and National Bank (1.16 percent). Worst off were the blue chips of Viohalco (down 3.40 percent), Bank of Cyprus (3.09 percent) and Hellenic Postbank (1.50 percent). Turnover came to 185.4 million euros.
