Ticket offers have not offset drop in ferry passengers

Despite the considerable deals on offer for coastal shipping tickets, which can reach up to 50 percent this summer, passenger traffic on ferries has shown a satisfactory 85 to 90 percent capacity rate only on Fridays and Saturdays, according to data for the first 20 days of the month. On weekdays, there is a drop of up to 30 percent, particularly on high-speed catamarans. Rates vary from company to company with those operating conventional ferries holding the advantage, as they can allow leeway on economy class prices, which this year are more popular. Passenger figures for the July 1-20 period show a 4.5 percent decline from the same period last year, while the number of private cars ferried fell almost 7 percent.
