Nov17 suspects pay for media interviews

As prison authorities took disciplinary action against three suspected members of the November 17 terrorist group for giving interviews to the media, yet another N17 suspect applied for release from pre-trial detention on health grounds. Dimitris Koufodinas, Savvas Xeros and Pavlos Serifis – who requested release on bail – were banned from receiving any visitors except their lawyers or making telephone calls for five, seven and three days respectively, for their interviews with the Eleftherotypia newspaper and Alpha TV. Yesterday, lawyers representing Savvas Xeros and his two brothers, Christodoulos and Vassilis, requested that the three should be tried for «political crimes» by a jury court, as opposed to the three-judge criminal appeals court recommended by the prosecutor heading the N17 investigation. Tomorrow, Koufodinas is due to marry fellow suspect Angeliki Sotiropoulou in a civil wedding in Korydallos Prison.
