N17 bride won’t eat her cake

Shortly after marrying her fellow suspect, Dimitris Koufodinas, in a prison ceremony yesterday, alleged November 17 terrorist Angeliki Sotiropoulou launched a hunger strike for better detention conditions. Sotiropoulou’s lawyer, Ioanna Kourtovik – who served as a witness at the 15-minute civil ceremony conducted by the deputy mayor of Korydallos, Giorgos Dimopoulos – said the 40-year-old beekeeper would not eat until her isolation ended and she was granted the same rights as all other prisoners. Sotiropoulou also wants unrestricted access to her lawyer and more visits by her 12-year-old son – whose father is N17 suspect Savvas Xeros. All 18 N17 suspects are held in isolation cells in Korydallos Prison, pending the trial that is due in early March. Sotiropoulou’s wedding to alleged N17 chief hitman Dimitris Koufodinas, 45, was attended by her son and sister, Koufodinas’s mother, and Xeros’s girlfriend, Alicia Romero. Also yesterday, alleged N17 mastermind Alexandros Yotopoulos tabled a petition to be tried by jury for «political crimes.»
