A driver places chains on his tires in Malakassa, north of Athens, yesterday as snow fell in the capital’s northern suburbs and the broader region, as well as in many other parts of Greece. Strong winds in the Aegean kept ferries in port. In parts of northern Greece, such as Kozani, the temperature dropped to minus 7 Celsius (45F). Conditions will begin to improve today but temperatures will remain low.
