Snow blankets Athens, causing havoc on roads

Athenians woke up to a thick blanket of snow on Tuesday morning that was causing traffic chaos in many parts of the capital and halting public transportation.

Civil protection authorities issued a warning, calling on citizens to restrict their movements to the bare essentials while the cold weather brought by a system called Medea persists. They also urged employees not to go into work until 10 a.m. or after where this is possible.

According to the authorities, snow will continue to fall in Athens until roughly 10 p.m., after which temperatures are expected to inch up and skies to clear.
