Tasos Kourakis, former SYRIZA MP and minister, dies

Tasos Kourakis, 73, former SYRIZA MP, Alternate Minister for Education from January to August 2015 and one of the Greek Parliament’s deputy speakers from 2015 to 2019, died on Sunday after a long period of illness.
Kourakis, a pediatrician, was an associate professor of genetics at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Medical School and was a leading figure in many social activism movements.
His civil funeral will take place on Monday.
