Foreign Minister George Papandreou met with Lebanese President Emile Lahoud (l) outside Beirut yesterday at the end of his EU-backed Middle East tour to discuss ways of averting war in Iraq. Meanwhile, Athens said Premier Costas Simitis discussed Iraq over the phone on Monday with the PMs of Britain, Italy, Portugal and Sweden.
