Greece appoints caretaker prime minister ahead of new elections
Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou appointed Ioannis Sarmas, a senior judicial official who is president of the Court of Audit, as caretaker prime minister on Wednesday to form a government that will lead the country to a repeat election on June 25, after last weekend’s inconclusive vote.
“Thank you for the great honor. It is a constitutional obligation and my duty. I thank you very much and I wish for everything to go well,” Sarmas said during his meeting with Sakellaropoulou at the Presidential Palace.
