Council of State reviews allegedly unconstitutional decree on Mati fires

Thirteen collective requests for the annulment of the presidential decree concerning urban planning in the 2018 fire-affected regions of Eastern Attica, such as Mati, Rafina and Marathonas are being deliberated by the Council of State.

The plaintiffs argue that the decree, approving a special urban plan without completing the full Environmental Impact Assessment, violates constitutional environmental protection provisions and European legislation.

The annulment requests, filed in 2022, are being reviewed and deliberated by the Council of State’s division chaired by Vice President Christos Douchanis, with Councilors Eleni Papadimitriou, Roxani Giannoulatou, Dimitris Vandoros and Christiana Bolofi serving as rapporteurs.

The court has yet to issue its decision.
