Witness bombshell in terror case

A member of the police?s counterterrorism unit told an Athens court on Tuesday that there was no evidence linking any of the nine alleged members of the organization Revolutionary Struggle to attacks that have been attributed to the group.

In his statements — regarded as a major setback for authorities seeking to break the group — the witness claimed that police did not even have enough evidence to justify the arrest of the nine suspects.

The accused are Nikos Maziotis, Panayiota Roupa, Costas Gournas, Christoforos Kortetsis, Evangelos Stathopoulos, Sarantos Nikitopoulos, Costas Katsenos and Maria Beracha.

Revolutionary Struggle has claimed a series of bomb attacks in the Greek capital, including a the firing of a rocket-propelled grenade at the US Embassy in 2007.
