Doctor hurt during fracas outside ministry
A doctor sustained minor injuries during scuffles that broke out on Tuesday morning outside the Health Ministry where a group of medics employed with the Social Security Found (IKA) had been staging a rally as part of a 24-hour strike in protest at government reforms of the health sector.
It appears that Varvara Anemodoura, the head of the Piraeus doctors? association, got hurt during a fracas that broke out as the medics tried to force their way into the ministry building.
The doctors, who had gathered outside the ministry to demand a meeting with top government officials, are to scale up their action from Tuesday with rolling 48-hour strikes. They object to the government?s plans to slash spending in the state health sector, which is heavily in debt.
