Weapons cache found in Koropi

A cache of heavy weapons was discovered by police on Friday during the arrest of a 36-year-old man believed to be part of an extortion racket at his home in Koropi, east of Athens.

A search of the suspect’s property turned up two Kalashnikov assault rifles and a submachine gun buried in the garden, as well as four pistols, two hand grenades and other crime-related paraphernalia inside the home.

The weapons are being examined by a forensics lab to check whether they have been used in a crime.
