Locusts plague Northwestern Peloponnese
Swarms of locusts have descended on the northwestern Peloponnese and are devouring crops, prompting the deputy regional governor of Achaia province to declare an emergency.
The problem is particularly bad around the coastal area of Aigion, the Kalavryta and Erymanthos in the mountains and in the western part of the province. Locusts have even appeared in the provincial capital, the port of Patras.
Officials are holding an emergency meeting to decide on what action they will take.
