Municipal staffing problems made easier

Interior Minister Yiannis Ragousis on Friday presented Parliament with a legislative amendment that will allow staff to be transferred between municipalities.

The proposal comes after a study found discrepancies regarding the number of staff available compared to that needed in various municipalities.

The amendment allows for a more flexible system through which local authorities facing shortages will be able to draw from the staff pool of others.

The ministry also gave the green light for local authorities to hire 14,458 short-term contract workers this year.
