ISAP to halt Tuesday noon to 4 p.m.

There will be no services on the Piraeus-Kifissia electric railway (ISAP) between noon and 4 p.m. on Tuesday as workers protesting government plans to streamline ISAP are to stage a walkout.

Employees are protesting some 170 compulsory transfers that will result in staff going to positions elsewhere in the public sector and probably on lower pay. Hundreds more voluntary transfers already have been agreed.

Last week ISAP announced that its entire route will be operational as of June 8. Various sections of the ISAP route have been suspended over the past year — to allow the company to carry out much-delayed maintenance and engineering work to the tracks with the aim of increasing the speed of services and boosting safety. The works obliged thousands of people to seek alternative routes for the daily commute.
