Police discover fake notes worth over 1 million
Police discovered a banknote forgery workshop in Galatsi, north of Athens city center, on Saturday, with over 1.1 million euros of fake notes.
It followed the arrest of two 27-year-olds from Rwanda and Cameroon.
Police found the two men carrying a fake 50-euro note each, and they then led the authorities to their apartment where the police officers found huge amounts of forged banknotes.
There were fake 20-, 50-, 100-, 200-and even 500-euro notes adding up to 1,155,190. There were also forged bank notes of 50 and 100 US dollars to a total of $40,000.
Police also discovered 11 fully-equipped printers and a number of other materials used for the processing of fake banknotes.
