Gun arsenal discovered in Vyronas

An arsenal of ammunition and significant quantities of drugs and criminal paraphernalia were discovered by police in the Athenian neighborhood of Vyronas late on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the home of an unnamed 39-year-old foreign national in the late hours of Monday, whom they believe to be involved in a variety of criminal activities.

A search of the property revealed a large collection of handguns, an assault rifle, swords, ammunition, three sticks of dynamite, a Taser electroshock weapon, a retractable baton, 234 grams of cannabis and a small quantity of cocaine, among other finds that include electronic equipment, 13 vehicle registrations and a significant amount of valuable jewelry.

The 39-year-old man was to face an Athens prosecutor on Tuesday on a raft of charges that include violating laws relating to organized crime, firearms possession and possession of criminal material.
