Process of merging customs, tax offices to begin

The process of merging and shutting down many of Greece?s customs and tax offices, in the context of a broader initiative to curb public spending ahead of inspections by foreign creditors, is due to begin on Monday.

The first step will be the merging of 14 customs offices as well as dozens of smaller departments.

The government aims to have merged 300 tax offices into 30 by the end of 2012, with a range of tax-related transactions being passed on to Citizens? Advice Bureaus (KEPs).
