Glyfada mayor sets deadline for cemetery solution
The mayor of Glyfada, Constantinos Kokkoris, said on Tuesday that he was giving the government 10 days to find a solution to the coastal suburb?s dilemma over what to do with its dead since the Environment Ministry declared illegal a cemetery set up in the area in August.
Noting that the municipality?s old cemetery had no space for further burials, Kokkoris told a press conference that if the government failed to tackle the problem, ?conflict is inevitable.?
The ministry has described as illegal the new makeshift cemetery, which is built on a plot of land inside Zone A of Mount Hymettus that is protected by environmental regulations.
