Bakoyannis welcomes coalition deal
Democratic Alliance leader Dora Bakoyannis has welcomed a coalition deal struck late Sunday between Greece’s two biggest parties, saying her party would back any interim administration.
Greece must show its European Union peers and foreign lenders that it is determined to remain part of the euro area, said Bakoyannis, who has in the past served as minister with the conservative party.
Papandreou will step down, according to Sunday’s deal. Reports Monday said he is likely to be succeeded by former deputy president of the European Central Bank Lucas Papademos.
Bakoyannis praised Papandreou and Samaras for showing a responsible stance.
