Three immigrants held on kidnapping charges

Three immigrants, aged 23, 26 and 38, faced a Thessaloniki prosecutor on Sunday accused of abducting, detaining and torturing a 28-year-old compatriot for two weeks before releasing him in return for a ransom, paid by the victim?s father.

Police, who provided no details about the ethnic origin of the suspects or the victim, said that the 28-year-old was held in an apartment where he was subjected to physical and mental torture and only freed once his father paid 1,810 euros into the bank account of one of the kidnappers.

The three men face charges of abduction, blackmail and grievous bodily harm.
