PASOK MPs urge Papandreou to step down

Twelve PASOK MPs have signed a letter calling their party leader, and former prime minister, George Papandreou to step down.

The letter, which is signed among others by Thessaloniki deputy and former Interior Minister Haris Kastanidis, also calls for a new center-left manifesto.

Papandreou has yet to make it clear if he plans to lead PASOK into the next elections.

On Sunday, Development Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis became the first PASOK member to publicly declare his interest in becoming the party’s next leader, issuing a direct challenge to the former premier.

?If the leader can no longer effectively represent the party, he has to go,? the minister told Mega TV.
