Teacher ‘child molester’ is remanded

A court in the Cretan port of Rethymno has appointed a lawyer to defend a 47-year-old school teacher accused of sexually molesting dozens of young boys after the suspect was unable to find anyone to represent him.

The teacher, a father-of-two, was remanded in custody on Tuesday after defending himself before an investigating magistrate. According to sources, the 47-year-old admitted to spending time with young boys but denied that anything of a sexual nature had occurred. A search on the suspect?s home last week turned up videos featuring pornographic material featuring minors and himself, according to police.

On leaving the magistrate?s office, the 47-year-old was attacked by a court employee who started punching him, apparently in outrage at the extremity of the violations the 47-year-old is accused of.

According to police sources, who said the suspect was caught in his home attempting to seduce two adolescents, the teacher is believed to have sexually molested dozens of boys aged between 13 and 14. The teacher — who also worked as a basketball coach ? allegedly approached his would-be victims at a local gymnasium during or after training.
