Ragousis outrage at tax evasion claims

Deputy Defense Minister Yiannis Ragousis lashed out against Diomidis Spinellis, the former general secretary of information systems at the Finance Ministry, on Wednesday in comments to Skai television, claiming that the latter?s claims about alleged corruption among tax collectors were hypocritical.

?The time has come for blame to be apportioned where it is due,? Ragousis, adding that he was outraged at the former general secretary?s change of stance. ?Mr Spinellis must understand that there is no logic in first maintaining that one is resigning for personal reasons and then talking about problems in tax collection and the special treatment of certain individuals.?

Ragousis claimed that Spinellis had always taken the line in cabinet meetings that all possible measures were being taken to crack down on tax evasion. ?At cabinet meetings we were told categorically that everything was being done to fight tax evasion,? Ragousis said. He also called on Finance Ministry officials to set the record straight on tax evasion.
