Weather warning issued for weekend
The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) on Friday warned of downpours and thunderstorms on Saturday in the Ionian, Epirus, western mainland and the western Peloponnese, along with strong winds at sea and snow on mountains.
Specifically, western parts of the country will experience gale force winds and strong showers, with a possibility of lightning as well, during the day on Saturday, with conditions easing overnight.
This wet front will move across to the eastern Aegean and possibly to the islands of the Dodecannese on Sunday, before shifting back toward the north and west on Monday.
The public is advised to limit travel and outdoor activities this weekend, especially in the areas that will be most affected, to seek shelter in the case of lightning storms and to exercise caution if driving on country roads traversed by streams or rain ditches.
