Justice minister blasts financial crimes prosecutors

Justice Minister Miltiadis Papaioannou on Friday blasted financial prosecutors Grigoris Peponis and Spyros Mouzakitis for failing to back up claims that outsiders had attempted to interfere in their investigations.

Papaioannou said the pair had damaged the reputation of the justice system by making unsubstantiated claims.

The two judicial officials withdrew their resignations after receiving assurances that they would not be replaced and that their allegations would be probed. However a Supreme Court investigation found no evidence to support their claims.

Sources said that Papaioannou may consider further action against the prosecutors.
