Parliament asked to probe ex-minister over train deals

Parliament was asked on Wednesday to investigate whether former Transport Minister Michalis Liapis should be prosecuted in connection with alleged financial scandals at the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) between 2004 and 2007.

The first instance prosecutor?s office sent the file to the House after probing a series of allegations, including that OSE rented eight Desiro trains from Siemens for 8 million euros, which was the same as their purchase price.

The file was sent to Parliament because there are indications that Liapis was aware of the mismanagement at OSE.

Another 20 people are being investigated over the allegations.
