Looted goods sold in Albania

Goods looted from shops by rioters during the anti-austerity protest in downtown Athens on February 12 have turned up in neighboring Albania, police sources have told Kathimerini.

Meanwhile, CCTV images that were released to the media for the first time capture the moment when groups of, mostly young, men looted and vandalized businesses in the capital.

Police published still shots from CCTV footage in the wake of the riots in an appeal to the public for help in identifying looters, but sources told Kathimerini that feedback so far has been limited.

However, they confirmed that, as in the aftermath of the 2008 lootings, many of the stolen goods have ended up in Albania.

Furthermore, a number of goods, mainly clothes and electronic products, were found on sale at various locations across the capital, including the Korean Market in Thisseio.
