Fresh tensions hamper Cyprus relations

One day before scheduled talks with Cyprus President Dimitris Christofias (photo) in Nicosia, Turkish-Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu said on Wednesday that it was likely the meeting would be the last in a series of United Nations-mediated contacts aimed at reaching a peace agreement on the long-divided island.

According to local reports, Eroglu said that Turkish Cypriots would wait first to hear UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon?s reaction to a report UN special envoy Alexander Downer is expected to issue soon.
