Dimas will not attend Syria talks over Cyprus snub
Foreign Minister Stavros Dimas will not be taking part in tomorrow?s ?Friends of Syria? meeting in Istanbul due to Turkey?s refusal to extend an official invitation to the Cypriot government to take part in the talks.
It is thought that the European Union?s foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton will also miss the talks. Several other EU countries were also considering Friday not sending representatives to the meeting in reaction to the absence of Cypriot officials.
Turkey?s decision not to invite Nicosia officials is seen as direct consequence of the fact that Cyprus will be assuming the EU?s rotating presidency later this year.
