Patient receives kidney from Spain

After three years of being hooked up to a dialysis machine, a 62-year-old patient in Greece received a kidney on Tuesday from Spain, after local authorities put his name on a list with the Catalan Transplant Organization (OCATT), reports said on Thursday, following successful transplant surgery at Evangelismos Hospital in central Athens.

The donor of the organ was a 58-year-old woman. OCATT did not find a compatible match for the organ in Spain and contacted the Greek transplant organization to tell them that the kidney was available.
