Sheep case dropped after Spiegel writer apologizes

A German journalist who was due to stand trial in Iraklio, Crete, this week in connection to an article he wrote about farmers on the island in 2010 has settled his differences with the association that sued him by apologizing.

Ralf Von Hoppe, who wrote an article for Der Spiegel magazine that suggested local livestock farmers grouped their sheep together to fool inspectors and gain more subsidies, appeared in court but the Iraklio Livestock Farmers? Association dropped the action when the journalist reportedly apologized for the furor that his report caused.
