Church denies link to ‘Corpus Christi’ lawsuits
The Holy Synod on Monday insisted that it had no involvement in the lawsuits brought against three actors in a passion play that it had condemned two days earlier, asking the public to boycott it.
Three actors in a Greek adaptation of Terence McNally?s ?Corpus Christi,? which dramatizes the story of Jesus and the Apostles, were arrested in central Athens on Saturday on blasphemy charges before a prosecutor ordered their immediate release pending a hearing.
While the names of the plaintiffs and the defendants were not made public, the Holy Synod released a statement saying that it neither filed the lawsuits nor ordered someone else to.
