Leftist to face trial for ‘inciting’ armed struggle
An Athens prosecutor on Wednesday brought criminal charges against leftist Ifikratis Amyras following video-taped comments showing him urging Greeks to conduct an ?armed struggle? against their government and the country’s international creditors.
Prosecutor Yiannis Dragatsis brought charges of inciting citizens to commit crimes against Amyras who has been indicted to trial.
In comments to Skai TV earlier this month Amyras, who had been linked to leftist Syriza after another video of was unearthed during the pre-election period showing him interviewing Syriza leader Alexis Tsipras, said he was not a member of SYRIZA. Amyras said he had put himself forward as a parliamentary candidate but that his bid had been rejected by the leftist party.
Amyras?s role had been questioned by conservative New Democracy during the pre-election campaign after the two videos emerged: one showing him interviewing Tsipras during the Indignant protests last summer and another showing Amyras on his own, calling on small groups of people to use ?Molotov cocktails, knives and clubs? against the ?forces of occupation.”
