Labor deputy calls for ‘shield’ against unemployment
The newly-sworn deputy labor minister, Nikos Nikolopoulos, who is also a New Democracy MP for the prefecture of Achaia, said on Friday that the number one priority of his ministry is measures to combat unemployment.
“Our immediate goal is to raise a shield against unemployment and poverty, because we are faced with a huge responsibility and many pending decisions in regard to the people who toil and work, to pensioners and to the country’s 1.2 million unemployed,» Nikolopoulos said in a statement.
“We will make a relentless effort to reduce bureaucracy and to contribute to the government’s overall effort to reboot the country’s production machine,» he said.
The 54-year-old theologist and writer was appointed deputy to the Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis on Thursday.
