Tension at riot police HQ

Tension flared up at the riot police headquarters in Athens on Thursday as police unionists prevented buses filled with riot police from departing for Thessaloniki ahead of the international trade fair.

Minor scuffles occurred as two squads of riot police were sent to remove some 50 unionists protesting at the site.

Police are protesting government plans to cut their wages.

The Thessaloniki International Fair starts on Saturday.
