Ex-mayor convicted over illegal billboard crash
Former Maroussi Mayor Panagiotis Tzanikos received a suspended 16-month jail sentence on Tuesday after being convicted of manslaughter by neglect in connection with a fatal crash involving a billboard that had been illegally installed in the northern Athenian suburb.
One person was killed when a car crashed into the metal billboard on Kifissias Avenue in December 2005.
Tzanikos is expected to appeal the decision.
