SDOE raises 1 mln euros through sale of illegal fuel

State coffers were bolstered with just over 1 million euros in much-needed revenue following the sale of illegally imported fuel that has been confiscated from several offenders, according to the Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE).

Inspections have been intensified at Greece’s borders with Albania, Bulgaria and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) in a bid to crack down on further illegal imports of fuel. In recent days that crackdown has led to the arrest of three Albanian nationals, two Greeks and a FYROM national. In each case the offenders were fined 4,500 euros.
