Ex-minister to be probed

The parliamentary committee responsible for checking politicians? origin of wealth forms (?pothen esches?) said on Thursday that it had ordered auditors to investigate the records of former Defense and Finance Minister Yiannos Papantoniou.

The committee took the decision after receiving a letter from financial affairs prosecutor Grigoris Peponis, who informed the panel that the name of Papantoniou?s wife had appeared on a list of Greeks with large deposits at the Geneva branch of HSBC, also known as the ?Lagarde list? after former French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde, who provided the data to Greek authorities in 2010.

Once the auditors complete their report, Papantoniou and his wife will have 20 days to respond to the findings.
