Ferry on fire allows passengers to disembark safely

Fire fighters were still battling with the flames aboard Greek ferry boat Kriti 2 at the port of Patras, western Greece, on Tuesday morning after it caught fire late on Monday, but all of its passengers and crew are safe.

The fire started before the ship reached Patras, but the ferry arrived at the Peloponnesian port safely from Venice and Igoumenitsa and all of its 113 passengers disembarked without any problems, while the fire was raging at the upper open deck.

The vessel also carried 18 cars and 92 trucks.

Coast guard boats and fire fighters have been trying to distinguish the blaze for hours.
