Over 33,000 applications for heating oil subsidies
More than 33,000 homeowners had applied for a heating oil subsidy by Friday afternoon, the General Secretariat of Information Systems (GSIS) revealed on Saturday.
Of the 33,388 applications, 27,460 had been approved.
The government has agreed to return some money to less well-off Greeks after it raised the tax on heating oil to match that on other fuel in a bid to combat smuggling.
Homeowners can apply for the subsidy through the GSIS website (www.gsis.gr) by providing their Taxisnet number or tax code (AFM) as well as details about their property.
